When Final Fantasy XIV launched female-only Viera and male-only Hrothgar as playable races for its Shadowbringers enlargement, fans were not happy. It seems the sport’s graphics crew weren’t blissful both, so that they labored of their free time between patches to get male rabbits and feminine bestial cats into Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker.

In a Q&A posted this morning on the PlayStation Blog, FFXIV producer Naoki Yoshida talks about how the shocking addition of male Viera revealed throughout the current Fanfest streaming occasion took place. During Shadowbringers’ launch, Yoshida was adamant that the gender-locked variations of the Viera and Hrothgar can be the ultimate playable races added to the sport. As the sport director factors out, every new playable race provides extra work to each sport replace. Clothing wants to suit. Cutscenes should be examined to make sure members of the brand new races keep within the body. Emotes should be tailor-made for every race as effectively, so including a brand new gesture or dance will get extra difficult.

So we wound up with feminine rabbits, honoring Fran from Final Fantasy XII, and male beasts in honor of Kimahri from Final Fantasy X. But that wasn’t ok for followers, and leaving such a powerful participant request unanswered didn’t sit effectively with the sport’s graphics crew. So they used their very own time to determine it out.

“They spent over half a year using what free time they had in between their normal work on the patches to consider ways to add another playable race,” Naoki Yoshida tells the PlayStation Blog. “From this they concluded that we could probably squeeze in just one more at this time.”

So not solely did the graphics crew make male Viera potential, in addition they found out add feminine Hrothgar. “Rather than waiting until (hypothetically) 7.0 to add two playable races at the same time,” says Yoshida, “we realized we could actually ease the impact on our resources if we implemented these one at a time. Ultimately, I decided we should then move forward with implementing one playable race at a time, and I will make sure to explain that to our players: that’s what we did for this upcoming expansion.”

So right here’s to Final Fantasy XIV’s graphics crew, who labored tirelessly to get scantily clad rabbit boys into the subsequent enlargement. They’re the actual heroes.
